How to Take Action Against Fraudulent Scam Emails

Scam mails are fraudulent electronic violations that must be stopped. However, this is not always possible and thus this article focuses on the basic actions that need to be taken against fraudulent scam emails.

Change your password to regain access to your account if you can and do damage control in as far as you are able to.

Report your scam. Post it on www.scamradar.com or a similar site if you can.

Notify the authorities and Log your complaints:

Your search engines / service providers

Banks – All your banks and ask them to place notification on your accounts.

Online Accounts – Management

Report it to the Police. Politely insist on getting a reference number. Explain your situation at length until someone who has the knowledge is able to quote the relevant act (Electronic Violation Act) and assist in giving you a case number.

Damage Control: Warn Others and restore your online communication (reputation and integrity). This is the best apology and recourse even if you are not responsible. Some people may not display respectful interactions, human understanding, professionalism, knowledge and logic in these matters.

Find someone from each of your circulation lists that you trust and send them an email that notifies recipients of the scam.

Request that they forward the email and notify others on the circulation lists. For an example, read the one cited below.

Furthermore, those that know you, will know how to contact you. Offer them the opportunity to call you, but place no contact details in the mail. Accept text messages, but with a disclosed number and name. Do not give particulars about suspects. The person may actually be on one of their lists or someone that you may have had a conversation with. It could be someone with access to inside information and accounts. It could literally be anyone that is doing the hacking and being hacked.

Change all your Account Passwords

  • If all your confidential information has been violated, removed or deleted, you and those you represent have been compromised. The information is a two way process. Most systems are secure, but with all the relevant information, entry will appear legitimate, but may actually be illegal.

  • Western Union may be very secure, but it is still possible to steal in a legitimate way. My curriculum vitae and tax forms and so forth had been accessed with all relevant information needed to transfer funds or extort funds from others who know me.
